"Gates of Illusion" Production Summer 2026

Sophia wakes up one morning to see a cathedral had appeared in front of her house. Curious, she goes to explore. Little did she know, the like between real and pretend would soon be blurred as she meets the owner..

EVELYN - FEMALE

  • Age: 30-60
  • Backstory: Once a gifted singer raised in a controlling household, Evelyn was forced to bury her trauma. She eventually inherited the estate and began using her charm and discipline to create her own “perfect” world—one where no one could leave her.
  • Personality: Elegant, commanding, obsessive. Often soft-spoken, but always calculating. Her cruelty is masked by care.
  • Motivation: Control and preservation. She sees Sophia as both a muse and a second chance. She’ll do anything to keep her.
  • Casting Notes: Needs to carry emotional weight and power in stillness. A singer or someone who can fake a haunting vocal quality would be a bonus.

VIVIENNE

  • Age: 30s-60s
  • Backstory: Once close to Evelyn, Vivienne now functions as both confidante and quiet challenger. She sees through Evelyn but stays—possibly out of guilt or self-preservation.
  • Personality: Witty, observant, morally conflicted. She's the only one who dares speak the truth to Evelyn, though subtly.
  • Motivation: Deep down, she wants to free Sophia—but also fears becoming the next target.
  • Casting Notes: A layered, intelligent presence. Someone who can deliver subtle sarcasm and hidden fear.


 MR. HAWTHORNE

  • Age: 30s-70s
  • Backstory: Hired as the caretaker, he’s more like Evelyn’s enforcer. Emotionally distant and deeply loyal—for reasons unknown.
  • Personality: Cold, efficient, silently menacing. Speaks rarely but acts quickly.
  • Motivation: Unknown. Possibly fear, loyalty, or debt to Evelyn. He doesn’t question her orders—but may quietly question his role.
  • Casting Notes: A physical presence. Doesn’t need many lines, but must be intimidating with minimal dialogue.

ELIAS

.Age: 18-70

.Backstory: Elias is the librarian for Evelyn and his backstory is not very well known. He is more of a spirit than a person, being very sacred and poetic.

Personality: He is very poetic and most of the time will speak in riddles

Motive: To help Sophia but he is worried if he does, he would have to suffer the wrath of Evelyn.

Casting Notes: Hold yourself like you know something but cant say. empathetic and poetic. 

AMELIA

  • Age: 10-15
  • Backstory: Sophia's younger sister who was put in the story by Evelyn to try to trick Sophia into trusting Evelyn.
  • Personality: Gentle, cryptic, tragic. Speaks in riddles and metaphor but with a sense of urgency and care.
  • Motivation: Help Sophia succeed where she failed. A guardian spirit towards the end, more than a full character.
  • Casting Notes: Ethereal and soft-spoken. Must have a haunting, almost fairy-tale presence.



YOUNG EVELYN (for flashbacks)

  • Age: 15–17
  • Backstory: A lonely, gifted girl used by others for her voice. We glimpse her heartbreak and her turning point—when she stops being the victim.
  • Personality: Emotional, sensitive, desperate for love and control.
  • Motivation: Be seen, be free, be powerful.
  • Casting Notes: Needs to mirror adult Evelyn in essence. Ideal if the same actress could voice-sing.
